Bhojpur:

The Bhojpur ruins are the ruins of the ancient capital of Malwa, situated on the banks of Narmada some 90 km from Bhopal. The area has been developed as a tourist spot and offers a variety of attractions like Shiva Temple, Panna Caves, Museum etc. The excavation of the area began in 1793 and is still being carried out today by Archaeological Survey of India. These ruins are spread over an area of 2.5 sq km and is around 1500 years old. The temple of Maskra Bhairav is a fine specimen of early Gupta architecture.

Situated in Hoshangabad district, it is a very old place with Jain rock-cut temples, step wells and other places of interest being found here. The village has impressive temples like the Kacheri Temple, Takli Temple and more. The Jain temples of the village are fine specimens of ancient architecture. Prithvipur is a major pilgrimage destination for Jains. The famous Kacheri Temple is dedicated to Adinath (Ajitanath). Situated in Tikamgarh District, Orchha is a town with architectural marvels built by the Bundela Rajputs like palaces, temples and step-wells which are an impressive combination of Indian and Central Asian architecture. The ruins at this place reflect the glory of Bundelas who built these monuments from around 16th to 18th century. Sun Temple, Konark:

Konark is a small village in the Puri District of Odisha. The Sun Temple at Konark is a major tourist attraction today. Its construction was begun in the 13th century under King Narasimhadeva I in 1234 AD, and was not completed until 1250 AD by his son, Ranaditya. This sandstone temple is on an elevated and circular podium that marks the center of town. The temple is dedicated to the Sun god and is called “Konark” or “Kona Kila”, which means “the mansion in the circle of the Sun”.

Raj Ghat:

Raj Ghat was constructed in memory of Mahatma Gandhi, father of India and is located near Raj Bhawan, Bhopal. It is a beautiful red sandstone memorial that consists an eternal flame. Gandhi was cremated on this spot after his assassination by Nathuram Godse on 30th January 1948. Raj Ghat was designed by the architect Charles Correa, who is also the designer of Gandhi Smriti Sangrahalaya in New Delhi. In 1983, Raj Ghat was built on the banks of River Shipra by Rajmata Vijayraje Scindia and inaugurated by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on 2nd October 1983.

Kanch Mandir:

This temple is situated in Mandla district and it is surrounded by 5 spires around a central dome. Kanch Mandir is one of the Pancha Maha temples in Madhya Pradesh. This temple was built by King Chander Shekhar in 1745, who ruled Mandla between 1734 and 1781. The temple complexes are richly decorated with intricate carvings and sculptures. Kanch Mandir was constructed over a period of forty years and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It houses the Sun God, Surya in the temple.

Ujjain:

Situated in Ujjain district, Ujjain is an important city known for its heritage and culture situated on the banks of River Kshipra. It was formerly known as Avantika and is home to various temples which are a major tourist attraction in the city. The most famous ones include Mahakali Temple, Mahakaleshwar Mandir and Kal Bhairav Temple. According to archaeologists, the city of Ujjain had been inhabited from the 4th century BC.

Khandwa:

Situated in Khandwa district, Khandwa is a best tourist place which is known for its architecture and rock-cut temples. Khandwa has been developing as a gateway to the Malwa plateau for centuries. It was formerly known as Sukrachhia but was renamed after King Durlabhvardhan (AD 1221). The arrival of the British in Rajputana led to the establishment of Khandwa as a major military garrison in 1817. The city became important because of an abundant water supply and river transportation facilities.

The most famous historical monument of Khandwa is the hill fortress of Ratanpur, which was built by the Yadavas in the 7th century. This fort has a gateway with a defensive structure that is beautifully decorated with carvings depicting stories from Hindu mythology. The fort also has ancient rock-cut temples as well as modern structures, like the Bhawani Mandir.

Madhya Pradeshs History is a very interesting one. Although the region has been contested by many powers throughout Madhya Pradesh’s History, it has managed to evade many attempts at domination. The area was ruled by the Mauryas, the Guptas and then the Satavahanas before finally falling under the sway of various invaders from north and central Asia. In fact, it wasn’t until the rise of a powerful king named Chandragupta Vikramaditya that southern India was taken out of its shackles and made an important part of the Indian empire. Madhya Pradesh’s History of ancient time is a very interesting one. Although the region has been contested by many powers throughout its long history, it has managed to evade many attempts at domination.
